Therapy Groups Overview

This 9-week group helps you learn practical CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) tools to manage OCD. We will explore different types of obsessive and compulsive behaviours and introduce helpful strategies like Exposure and Response Prevention. You will also learn how to spot and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns in a supportive environment.

In this 8-session group, we will look at the mental and emotional impact of living with a long-term health condition. You will learn CBT-based techniques to help with pain, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Each session includes helpful worksheets to support your journey and build useful coping skills.

The group will continue building on knowledge from the psychoeducational trauma group. You will understand what is maintaining the PTSD, specifically working on understanding how trauma affects your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.  You will develop tools to manage triggers and distress. A key part of the group includes safely exploring and updating trauma-related beliefs. This group consists of 10 sessions.

Although we ask for your active participation in the group there is no need to share the content of your traumatic experience.

This 10-session group is designed for clients presenting with more than one anxiety presentation (such as social anxiety, panic, or general worry).  In this 10-week group, we support people experiencing more than one type of anxiety. You will learn how anxiety works, what keeps it going, and how to break the cycle. We will guide you through changing unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, so you can feel more in control and better able to cope with everyday challenges.

This group supports clients grieving the loss of a human relationship—whether positive or negative—by helping them understand and navigate the symptoms, tasks, and overall process of grief. With guidance from facilitators and connection with peers, members will identify where they are in their grief journey and discover meaningful ways to express their loss.

This group provides both emotional support and practical strategies for mothers with babies and children under 2. The group focuses on managing low mood, anxiety, and stress during the perinatal period, while also touching on communication styles, relaxation techniques, expectations of parenthood, and self-esteem.

The group aims to help mothers feel more confident and supported during this important stage of life.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

You should allow 2 hours for the group sessions, although some may be shorter.

The group sessions will be held via Microsoft Teams. The link you need to access the group will be sent to you a week prior to the first session. Please use the same link for each weekly session. The group facilitators will let you in within 5 minutes past the start time, as they will wait for as many attendees to join before starting.

We ask that you attend the group on time, however we understand that situations occur where you may be late.

If you are more than 15 minutes late you will not be let into the group and you will be marked as did not attend, as you would have missed important content, and it can cause disruption to other participants.  If you miss two group sessions without letting us know, it is likely that you will be discharged.

We ask that you let us know with at least 24 hours’ notice if you are unable to attend a group session, either by calling our main office or sending an email. If you do not let us know that you are unable to attend, this will be noted down as a did not attend (DNA). If you cancel more than 2 appointments or do not attend more than 2 appointments, you will be discharged from the service in line with the service’s attendance policy.

You can expect a safe, supportive space where you will learn practical tools to manage your mental health. You will meet others who are going through similar experiences, helping you feel less alone and more understood.  You will benefit from hearing different perspectives and learning what has worked for others. Many people find comfort and motivation in the group setting, and it is a great place to build confidence and communication skills.

The sessions are structured and guided by evidence-based CBT techniques, with step-by-step support from a trained therapist.  There will be two qualified therapists facilitating the therapy group and at times, a trainee therapist will be observing the group session.

Please ensure that you are accessing the group from a confidential space where you are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted.

Participation is strongly encouraged.  You will be muted when you join the group as the therapists will start the session, however, please turn on your camera as this makes for a better experience.

We will never put you on the spot or ask you to share personal information. However, you will gain more from the group if you share your experiences and learning.

There will be homework tasks that we ask you to complete between sessions. This is an important part of the therapy and is just as important as attending the sessions, as this is where you will see real change.  Between session learning will be discussed in the group and you will be supported by the facilitator.

We do ask that prior to each group session, that you complete a set of questionnaires (webforms) that will be sent to you via SMS 48 hours prior

We understand that a therapy group can be anxiety-provoking.  All our therapy groups are approved by NICE guidelines.  This means that you are accessing evidence-based therapy quickly, with additional support from people experiencing similar problems you.

Your group facilitators will arrange a review call with you to discuss your progress and experience of the group. We hope that from the group you will have learnt strategies to manage your symptoms.  We encourage you to continue using these techniques to maintain your progress.

“I was referred to Mind’s Talking Therapies Group when I was feeling low. Initially, I felt nervous about joining because I had never taken part in group sessions before but the therapists who led the group made it a positive experience by creating a safe and comfortable place for us to share our thoughts and learn about CBT. These sessions helped me to deepen my self-awareness and equipped me with better thinking and lifestyle habits which was so helpful. By the end of the sessions, I was in a much better place and was so grateful to have taken part in the course. I would recommend Talking Therapies to anyone who wants to give it a go!”
