Singing for Wellbeing session brings Bexley mums together

Fifteen local mums enjoyed an uplifting afternoon of music, conversation and connection at a Singing for Wellbeing workshop organised by Mindful Mums Bexley.

The session took place at Danson Children’s Centre in Bexleyheath on Monday 6 July and was hosted by Aimee Gardner from MotherEase.

Participants spent an hour singing simple, enjoyable songs with easy harmonies. No previous singing experience was required, with everyone encouraged to sing “perfectly imperfectly” and enjoy how it felt.

The singing was followed by drinks, cake and biscuits, giving the mums an opportunity to relax, talk and connect with one another. Babies were also able to remain alongside their mums throughout the session.

A large group of mums and babies are at the singing session. Some mums are sat on chairs - others on mats wit h their babies

Singing can offer several benefits for people after having a baby. It can release endorphins, which may help to improve mood and promote a sense of calm. Singing as part of a group can also reduce feelings of isolation, strengthen connections and create a sense of belonging.

The event was attended by 15 mums, who really enjoyed the session and the opportunity to spend time with others in a welcoming and supportive environment.

The workshop was the first in a planned series of events organised by the Mindful Mums Bexley service in collaboration with local organisations and practitioners.

Future sessions will give mums in the borough further opportunities to connect with others, learn new skills, be creative, reflective or active, and enjoy some time to focus on themselves while keeping their babies close by.

Mindful Mums Project Coordinator Emma Seaton said: “It was wonderful to see the mums enjoying the session, taking time to relax and having the opportunity to talk and connect with other mums. We would like to say a huge thank you to Aimee for her fantastic support and for giving her time to host such an uplifting and enjoyable session.”
