This short 4-session group will give you an understanding of trauma and its effects. You will learn about risk factors in developing PTSD symptoms, gain an introduction to the CBT model for trauma and learn grounding techniques to help manage your symptoms. The group builds a foundation to move to our Trauma + therapy group.

There is no need to share the content of your traumatic experience with the group; however as in 1-1 therapy, active participation is required, including keeping your camera turned on.

This group is designed to support clients with an ADHD diagnosis, those waiting for an assessment, or those who have traits of ADHD.  It is particularly helpful for people who feel overwhelmed or low in mood, lack motivation, and struggle with self-doubt.  The group focuses on practical tools to improve everyday wellbeing, including activity planning, managing unhelpful thoughts, problem-solving skills, relaxation, and healthy sleep routines.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Groups run for 4-6 sessions depending on the group.  Sessions are 1.5 hours long and are held weekly.

The group sessions will be held via Microsoft Teams. The link you need to access the group will be sent to you a week prior to the first session. Please use the same link for each weekly session. The group facilitators will let you in within 5 minutes past the start time, as they will wait for as many attendees to join before starting.

We ask that you attend the group on time, however we understand that situations occur where you may be late.

If you are more than 15 minutes late you will not be let into the group and you will be marked as did not attend, as you would have missed important content, and it can cause disruption to other participants. If you miss two group sessions without letting us know, it is likely that you will be discharged.

We ask that you let us know with at least 24 hours’ notice if you are unable to attend a group session, either by calling our main office or sending an email. If you do not let us know that you are unable to attend, this will be noted down as a did not attend (DNA). If you cancel more than 2 appointments or do not attend more than 2 appointments, you will be discharged from the service in line with the service’s attendance policy.

You can expect a safe, supportive space where you will learn practical tools to manage your mental health. You will meet others who are going through similar experiences, helping you feel less alone and more understood.  You may benefit from hearing different perspectives and learning what has worked for others. Many people find comfort and motivation in the group setting, and it is a great place to build confidence and communication skills.

The sessions are structured and guided by evidence-based CBT techniques, with step-by-step support from a trained therapist.  There will be two qualified therapists facilitating the therapy group and at times, a trainee therapist will be observing the group session.

Please ensure that you are accessing the group from a confidential space where you are unlikely to be overheard or interrupted.

We ask that you participate in the group where you feel comfortable. You will be muted when you join the group as the therapists will start the session, however, please turn on your camera if you feel comfortable to do so. We will never put you on the spot or ask you to share personal information. However, we know from experience that you will gain more from the group if you share your experiences and learning.

There will be homework tasks that we ask you to complete between sessions. This is an important part of the therapy and is just as important as attending the sessions, as this is where you will see real change.  Between session learning will be discussed in the group and you will be supported by the facilitator.

We do ask that prior to each group session, that you complete a set of questionnaires (webforms) that will be sent to you via SMS 48 hours prior.

A therapy group is the quickest way to access therapy and will equip you with a variety of tools and techniques to help you better manage your symptoms of depression and anxiety. Unlike individual therapy, group participants have the benefit of hearing from others who have similar symptoms and experiences. Our group participants report that they no longer feel alone in what they are experiencing and can relate to other group members, providing peer as well as therapeutic support.

All the therapy groups that we offer are NICE recommended and have been shown to achieve positive outcomes for participants who complete the course.

We understand that a therapy group can be anxiety-provoking.  All our therapy groups are approved by NICE guidelines.  This means that you are accessing evidence-based therapy quickly, with additional support from people experiencing similar problems you.

Your group facilitators will arrange a review call with you to discuss your progress and experience of the group. We hope that from the group you will have learnt strategies to manage your symptoms.  We encourage you to continue using these techniques to maintain your progress.

“I was referred to Mind’s Talking Therapies Group when I was feeling low. Initially, I felt nervous about joining because I had never taken part in group sessions before but the therapists who led the group made it a positive experience by creating a safe and comfortable place for us to share our thoughts and learn about CBT. These sessions helped me to deepen my self-awareness and equipped me with better thinking and lifestyle habits which was so helpful. By the end of the sessions, I was in a much better place and was so grateful to have taken part in the course. I would recommend Talking Therapies to anyone who wants to give it a go!”
