Wellbeing Ambassadors receive recognition at Sidcup ceremony

Mind in Bexley hosted a special ceremony for our latest group of Wellbeing Ambassadors. The ceremony took place at the Star in Sidcup on Monday 30th March and was attended by the Mayor of Bexley, Cllr Christine Catterall.

There were 20 Wellbeing Ambassadors there to receive their certificates and badges, after completing the Mind in Bexley training.

Funded by the London Borough of Bexley’s Public Health Team, the Wellbeing Ambassador project provides local barbers, salon staff, and tattoo artists with mental health awareness training that equips them with the skills to recognise signs of common mental health challenges and signpost customers to additional support should it be required.

Originally launched as the Bexley Barbershop Project, Mind in Bexley trained barbers and other personal care professionals as Wellbeing Ambassadors, enabling hundreds of meaningful wellbeing conversations across the Borough.

The initiative has played a key role in reducing stigma, increasing awareness of mental health, and supporting people who may otherwise struggle to seek help.

Mind in Bexley continues to expand the Wellbeing Ambassadors project, inviting barbers, stylists, nail technicians and tattoo artists to join a growing network dedicated to supporting mental health through connection, compassion, and signposting to support.

Talking about the project, Shanie Dengate from the London Borough of Bexley’s Public Health Team said: “We are so proud of how the Project has grown and it was amazing to see how many people we are helping to become Wellbeing Ambassadors.

“The Project has already trained 75 Wellbeing Ambassadors from across Bexley Borough and we are delighted to play a role in helping champion mental health.”

Mind in Bexley’s Development Lead, Simon Dolby said: “Thanks to all the Wellbeing Ambassadors for their commitment to help Mind in Bexley and the London Borough of Bexley in our mission to support mental health and wellbeing.

“We have come a long way since the Barbershop Project first launched, and we are ahead of target with 75 Ambassadors signed up currently, and have an ambitious aim of training 100 within the Borough to support the community.”

Thanks to Peter Marshall and everyone at The Star at Sidcup Place for their fantastic support and making this ceremony such a success.
