How our Walk and Talk group helped Graeme overcome his isolation and loneliness

For Graeme, that moment came after his divorce. He found himself withdrawing more and more, until he discovered Mind in Bexley.

“I came to Mind in Bexley after having a divorce,” he shared. “I found it very good because I was becoming more isolated.”

Graeme began attending our Walk and Talk sessions – a simple but powerful group where people meet up for a stroll and a chat. It quickly became something he looked forward to.

“Once a week or when I can, I go on the Walk and Talk,” he said. “You talk to other people, you get to know other people, you get to know their problems, and they get to know yours.”

The benefits went beyond the walk itself. For Graeme, these small but meaningful interactions became a way to rebuild social connections and feel part of a community again.

“I think that’s important because you’re talking, you’re interacting,” he explained. “That loneliness and isolation doesn’t creep in anymore.”

At Mind in Bexley, we understand that loneliness isn’t just about being physically alone – it’s about feeling disconnected. That’s why our Recovery College offers a range of supportive, welcoming groups where people can meet others, share experiences, and begin to feel a sense of belonging again.

If you or someone you care about is feeling isolated, we encourage you to take that first step – just like Graeme did. Whether it’s our weekly Walk and Talk group, one of our creative workshops, peer-support groups, or confidence-building workshops, there’s something for everyone in Bexley.
