CARERS SUPPORT GROUPS AND WELLBEING ACTVITIES

CARERS SUPPORT & SOCIAL GROUP

Every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month 1.30pm onwards

Mind in Bexley and Pier Road carers are welcome to join us for a social, refreshments and a walk in the beautiful café & grounds at Hall Place, in Bexley. (Walk is optional)

JUST BREATHE SESSIONS

Online Weekly Mondays 9.30am – 10.00am & 6.30pm – 6.30pm

In these sessions carers learn breathing exercises to help alleviate emotional distress, reduce stress, and improve well-being. The essentials of breathwork are based around re-learning how to breathe in a way that better supports health.

CARERS PEER SUPPORT GROUPS

In person Weekly on Mondays 11.15am – 12.45pm in Bexleyheath

(Bookable only)

Online monthly Tuesdays 5.30pm – 7.00pm

These groups are for carers and families who are affected by another person’s mental health problems and/or substance and alcohol use. The groups provide specialist support, advice, information, and an opportunity to meet others carers with similar experiences.

FAMILY AND CARERS INFORMATION SESSIONS

The Woodlands Unit Mental Health Inpatient and Crisis Services

Online weekly Wednesdays 5.30pm – 6.30pm

This group is run in partnership with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Inpatient & Crisis Mental Health Services and is for relatives or friends of someone who is under the Bexley Home Treatment Team or a patient on Millbrook or Lesney Ward, The Woodlands Unit, Queen Marys’ Hospital, Sidcup.

These sessions provide carers with:

  • An opportunity to ask questions about the care your relative or friend is receiving.
  • Information sharing about mental health conditions, associated behaviour, treatment, and discharge planning.
  • A space to raise your concerns and talk about how things are for you.
  • Get helpful support and advice regarding your situation.
  • Support from other families and carers in similar situations.
  • A safe and confidential group.

TAI CHI/QI GONG CLASSES

Online weekly Thursdays 10.00am – 11.00am

Qigong is traditional Chinese exercise practice which can improve mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, sound, and focused intent. Generally, Qigong and Tai Chi have been proven to have the following benefits: Improved balance, strength, and flexibility, Reduced anxiety and depression, Lower Blood pressure, improved immune system, improved mental focus, better sleep quality, improved cognitive function in older adults, help relieve chronic pain, Loosen muscles and joints, and Aids digestion.

CARERS GROUP GUEST SPEAKER

Online monthly Thursdays 1.00pm – 2.30pm

This meeting hosts specialist agencies and practitioners, who share their areas of expertise and advice with families & carers. It is a confidential and informative space for Carers to learn about matters relevant to them and their circumstances, enabling them to better cope with the challenges they face. These sessions are interactive, and Carers can ask questions to receive specific advice and information.

CARERS SELF CARE SESSIONS

Online fortnightly Fridays 10.00am – 11.00am

In these sessions carers learn ways to relax to reduce stress and anxiety. We use techniques such as mindfulness, meditation and self-care practices which can help to cope with caring and improve well-being.

CARERS PSYCHOEDUCATION WORKSHOPS

These workshops are for mental health carers and are being run in partnership with Mind in Bexley and Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.
