Staff from Mind in Bexley were at the Holiday Inn in Bexley on Friday 9 June for the Carers Event, organised by Bexley Carers Partnership.

The event saw a wide-range of information stalls from partner organisations, and there were also activities such as massage, meditation, reiki, exercises and drop-in art sessions.

The Bexley Carers Partnership consists of the NHS, Bexley council, charities and voluntary organisations and the event aimed to raise awareness of caring and to say thank you to all of Bexley’s carers.

It was timed to take place during the Carers Week (June 5-11), which is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don’t think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

The Mayor and Mayoress of Bexley (Cllr Ahmet Dourmoush and Mrs Elmaz Dourmoush) were in attendance and are pictured below with Mind in Bexley’s Sam Irving and Andy Burke.

Sam Irving (NHS Bexley Talking Therapies Service Lead) said: “It was a great opportunity to raise awareness of the work of Mind in Bexley at today’s Carers Event. The venue was really busy and lots of people came to say hello and find out information about the different services that we provide. Bexley Carers Partnership do such sterling work across the borough and this bustling event was the perfect way to end Carers Week.”
