CARERS SUPPORT AND SOCIAL GROUPS:

JUST BREATHE SESSIONS

Online weekly: Mondays (9am-9.30am)

In these sessions carers learn breathing exercises to help alleviate emotional distress, reduce stress, and improve wellbeing. The essentials of breathwork are based around re-learning how to breathe in a way that better supports health.

CARERS SUPPORT GROUPS

Carers support and drop-in at Devonshire Road every 2nd and 4th Monday 2pm to 3.30pm

Mind in Bexley and Pier Road carers are welcome to join us for a social event. We meet at the Mind in Bexley office at 2a Devonshire Road, Bexleyheath DA6 8DS where you’re welcome to drop in and have a chat, in an informal safe environment. We also provide tea, coffee and biscuits.

FAMILY AND CARERS INFORMATION SESSIONS

Information sharing and learning sessions

Fortnightly Face-to-Face Mental Health Inpatient and Crisis Services, Family and Carers information sessions.

For family members and carers of someone who are under the Bexley Home Treatment Team or a patient on Millbrook or Lesney Ward.

These sessions are an opportunity to ask questions about the care your relative or friend is receiving. Learn about mental health conditions, associated behaviour, treatment, discharge planning and receive helpful support and advice regarding your situation.

The Woodlands Unit Mental Health Inpatient and Crisis Services

Face-to-face fortnightly on Wednesdays at 5pm–6pm – at the Woodlands Unit

This group is run in partnership with Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, Inpatient & Crisis Mental Health Services and is for relatives or friends of someone who is under the Bexley Home Treatment Team or a patient on Millbrook or Lesney Ward, The Woodlands Unit, Queen Marys’ Hospital, Sidcup.

You can join in as little or as much you feel comfortable.

Ask questions and learn about helpful information for carers. Mental Health Practitioners and Carers’ Support Workers facilitate this group and can address any concerns or questions carers may have relating to their relative or friend’s condition and treatment.

CARERS PSYCHOEDUCATION WORKSHOPS

A free six-week supportive course for carers

Starting: Wednesday 21st May

2pm–3pm (In Person – 2a Devonshire Road, Bexleyheath)
5pm–6pm (Online via MS Teams)

Are you caring for someone with a diagnosis of Psychosis, Schizophrenia, or Bipolar Disorder?

You’re not alone!

Mind in Bexley Carers Service and Oxleas ICMP Team invite you to join our six-week psychoeducation workshop designed to support and empower carers.

  • Learn about mental health conditions
  • Connect with other carers
  • Gain strategies for coping and communication
  • Feel supported in your caring journey

Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis.

1:1 EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

There is also the option for carers to access up to six sessions of one-to-one personalised/resourced based Carers Support, via telephone or video.

These sessions will be with a mental health carers support worker or with one of our carers support volunteers. They will help you to explore how things are for you. We provide information, advice and support that is tailored to meet your personal needs such as:

  • Helping you to think about how caring impacts on you, and your life
  • Providing practical and emotional support for you to manage your own wellbeing and help you with your caring relationship
  • Giving you practical tools and techniques to manage daily life as a mental health carer
  • Helping you navigate your way round the support services available to you and the person you care for
